Today's Program

Gathering Our Spirit to God's Spirit

The glass tube returns with a different take each week on the presence of God with us. This week, helix shapes remain, but there is a round wrestling mat (approx.12 feet in diameter) surrounding the glass tube.

  • “Something’s Missing” by John Mayer plays
  • A Journeyer steps up to light the lamp and another rings the bell
  • David (E) and Leslie (L) make announcements

Worshiping with Our Children

  • A Journeyer leads our children in talking about how we all want things to be easy for us. We don’t like for our teachers to be tough, to have to study for a test, or to have to run at soccer practice, but struggling and working hard helps us grow and decide what is really important to us.

Welcome and Breathe

  • David welcomes, has us breathe…
  • David talks about the current series

From Our Spirit to God's Spirit

  • A Journeyer reads Genesis 3:22-24 (Gentiles Revised Version)

Then God in his mystery and diversity said, “Because of the choices the man and the woman have made, we have a difficult decision to make. This changes everything. Just like us, they know and appreciate the difference between good and evil. Just like us, they are creatures of free will. If they are to experience genuine connection with us and with themselves, they will have to work, to struggle, and to wrestle with life and with relationship. They can no longer learn the lessons they need to learn in the safety of the Garden of Eden.” So Adam and Eve were led out and east of the garden, where they began to be taught the arduous process of farming and tending the land they had been given.

  • Another Journeyer reads Genesis 32:24-29 (New Living Translation)
  • A third Journeyer reads Matthew11:28-30 (Contemporary English Version)
  • Dave Madden leads the community in singing “Blessed Be Your Name”
  • Dave explains the “Say No” cards (ushers hand out cards and pens)

Giving -- To Help God Do God's Work in This World

  • A Journeyer leads an offertory prayer
  • Dave Madden sings “Dirty Feet” as the ushers pass the baskets and then take them to the foot of the cross

Telling The Story and Our Story

  • A Journeyer reads Genesis 32:30-32 (New Living Translation)
  • Rick talks
  • Rick encourages the community to write on the other side of their “Say No” cards
  • Dave Madden sings “When You Say No”

Go Out to Serve with Mercy and Grace

  • David calls the community forward to lay their cards on the wrestling mat and leads the community in reading together an excerpt from the prayer “St. Patrick’s Breastplate”

Against snares of devils, against temptations and vices,

Against inclinations of nature,

Against everyone who shall wish me ill,

Afar and anear, alone and in a crowd…

…Christ, be with me,

Christ before me, Christ behind me,

Christ in me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me,

Christ on my right, Christ on my left,

Christ where I lie, Christ where I sit,

Christ where I arise…

  • David dismisses
  • “Something's Missing” plays again as folks depart
