Do you people really meet in a warehouse?
From our beginnings in 2004, the Journey community always felt that a big fancy place wasnt consistent with our vision from God. We wanted to use our energies and resources to love God and love other people. We met in a YMCA for over two years, always praying that God would give us a place that we would use for Gods work and not just for ourselves. In the spring of 2006, God led us to the funkiest place we couldve imagined. Its a warehouse. The company there before us made some sort of computer thing. The moment David and Rick and Leslie walked in, they knew — God was powerful here.
We all prayed, and prayed, and prayed some more. We felt strongly that God was inviting us to make the leap of faith, financially and personally, to move in — in order to use the Warehouse to love people. So, we signed the lease and started fixing it up. Everybody chipped in, helped out, worked hard, volunteered. Painted. Renovated. Built. It's scruffy and relaxed, just like Journey is. We worship and have fun and learn and grow together in the Warehouse — but it doesnt belong to us.
The heart of how we feel about the Warehouse is M*A*S*H 3009 — its a place for healing, at 3009 Industrial Terrace. A place on the front, where people are dealing with real life. And its not really where Journey lives — its just where we are right now, in this tent, until God tells us something else. Journey isnt in a box any more than God is. We give the Warehouse away, in every way we can. We invite groups to use it, groups that help people and promote healing. AA, Al-Anon, ManKind Project, A Spacious Place, Out Of The School Box, community groups. We invite musicians to perform and practice, artists to display their work, and everyone to be in community together. Come by. Have a snack. Help paint. Be in this safe space.
