Afterthoughts
Listen to the Service
Today's Program
The room has many colors; it is bright with spots in some places and dark in others; it inspires awe. It feels big. The focus is the center of the room – though we need to see the screen too. It inspires not comfort, not a story, but bigness and goodness. Maybe a little terror. Are there many things to focus on around the room? There’s also a table with art and craft supplies somewhere.
Gathering Our Spirit with God's Spirit
- A Journeyer steps up to light the lamp
- “Elevation (Influx Remix)” by U2 plays and as it starts, another Journeyer rings the bell
- Rick (E) and Leslie (L) make announcements
Worshiping with Our Children
- A Journeyer leads our children – shows children something amazing (a butterfly? A beautiful piece of art? Something awe-inspiring) and connect that feeling to praising something – like God, who is amazing and wonderful. Responding to God is praise.
Welcome and Breathe
- Rick welcomes, has us breathe...
God’s Spirit and Our Spirit
- Rick talks about the concept of praise, and response to something amazing
- Dave Madden leads us in singing “The Doxology”
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him, all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Amen
- A Journeyer leads us in saying Psalm 100 together
Everything on earth, shout with joy to God!
Give praise to God, with happiness.
Approach God, singing with joy!
Affirm that God is the only God.
She is the One who created us,
And we belong to Her.
We are Her people, sheep in Her pasture.
Enter into Her palace gates and give thanks!
Go into Her courts singing songs of praise!
Give thanks to Her, and praise Her name.
God is good.
Her unfailing love will last forever,
And her trustworthiness continues,
From generation to generation.
- Rick leads group discussion of where we see wonder, beauty, power, goodness [slide of key words from discussion to be created on screen while it’s happening]
- Rick introduces what we've got to pick from for the rest of worship, then guides as we do those things together.
- As the spirit leads, various Journeyers come to microphone to read poems or essays, and share stories
Go Out to Serve with Courage and Grace
- A Journeyer ends with something we've all chosen, dismisses us
- “Praise You” by Fatboy Slim plays as folks depart [Note: different song from start]
