Today's Program

Creating Space for God’s Spirit

There are some stations with different energies surrounding a central altar with the Journey lamp and some decorative elements. The chairs are informal, even a bit messy, because this is intentionally a messy and also interactive worship gathering. This is all about God and what our models of God suggest that Jesus was about.

  • “Om Hraum Mitraya” by Deva Premal plays
  • A Journeyer steps up to light the lamp and another rings the bell three times

Worshiping with Our Children

  • A Journeyer leads our children in talking about what God is like

What do you think God acts like? Do you think God ever gets angry? Do you think God is ever mean? Do you think we have to pay for God to love us? There are many ways that people throughout the world think about God. At Journey, we believe that what Jesus told his friends about God is a good way to think about God: that God gives rain and sun to everyone, no matter whether we think those people are good or bad; that God gives us what we need; that God looks after us and cares for us. Let’s ask God to help us see where that kind of God might be in our world and inside us.

That does not

Giving -- To Help God Do God's Work in This World

  • A Journeyer reads from the Christian scripture called 1st John, chapter 4

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false messages have gone out into the world.

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome those messages, because the spirit who is in you is greater than the spirit of the world.

So, then, dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. When someone is not loving, that person does not see God, because God is love.

Dear friends, since God loves us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but when we love one another, God lives in us and God’s love is made complete in us.

  • The same Journeyer says an offering prayer
  • Dave sings his original song called “Accountable” as the ushers pass the baskets

Telling The Story and Our Story
