Lent, the preparation for the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, is 40 days, not counting Sundays. The idea of a 40-day pilgrimage comes from Scripture - the 40 days Moses spent on Mount Sinai receiving the Torah, the 40 years the Israelites wandered in the desert on the way to the Promised Land, and the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert being tested before beginning his ministry. The point of Jesus' 40-day journey was so that he could be ready for Day 41: the day when he announced that God's Dream was coming true. Each of us is called to follow Jesus, and to enact our part of Day 41. What work is God doing in you, so that you can be part of Day 41, where you are, when you are, now? Join the journey to Day 41.
