Afterthoughts

Listen to the Service

Today's Program

Gathering Our Spirit to God's Spirit

The Living Room is setup with the large table again in the center of the room. In the middle of the big table is a small fan pointed up with color streamers blowing from it. There is a large basket for offering and another where the 11 loaves of bread will be placed. Also there are 200+ votive candles on the table for lighting at the end of the service. There are once again index cards on each chair.

  • “Share Your Love” by Earth, Wind & Fire plays
  • A Journeyer steps up to light the lamp and another rings the bell
  • David make announcements

Worshiping with Our Children

  • A Journeyer leads our children in talking about how sometimes when we don’t have much, we get scared and want to keep it all for ourselves, but the early followers of Jesus decided that the best way to be sure that everyone had enough was to pitch in what they had and share.

From Our Spirit to God’s Spirit

  • David welcomes, has us breathe…
  • David recaps the series
  • Reader 1 reads Acts 4:32-35 (The Message)
  • Reader 2 reads Acts 4: 36-37 (The Message)
  • A group of 10 or so Journeyers, in ones and twos, takes loaves of bread to the table and place them in the flat basket, in the fashion of an offering
  • Reader 3 reads Acts 5:1-2 (The Message)
  • Following the reading, another Journeyer takes a loaf to the table, but takes out three slices and leaves the rest of the bread on the pile
  • Renee (E) and Dave (L) sing

Giving -- To Help God Do God's Work in This World

  • A Journeyer reads an offertory prayer

God, all of this talk about yours, mine and ours is a little unsettling. I hear about people like Barnabas, and even many of our fellow Journeyers who seem to give so selflessly and purely, and to be honest, it’s not that easy for me. It’s not that I don’t want to, or don’t see where there are legitimate needs all around me, but I get caught in the tug-of-war between what is the loving/heart thing to do and what is the smart/logical thing to do. I know that neither one of those are completely right or wrong on their own, so I need help to know how I am supposed to live responsibly in community with my family, with Journey, with my neighborhood and with the world you created. Amen

  • Renee plays instrumentally as the community comes forward to put their offerings/prayer requests/gifts of service cards in the baskets on the table…

Telling The Story and Our Story

  • David talks
  • David invites the community to come to the table to light candles of commitment and service

Go Out to Serve with Mercy and Grace

  • David leads the community in reading together Acts 2:46-47 (New Living Translation)

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those whose lives were being transformed.

  • David dismisses
  • “Share Your Love” plays again as folks depart
