Creating Space for God’s Spirit

Worshiping with Our Children

  • Rick leads our children in talking about God’s power helping us

Sometimes things are heavy to pick up; have you ever tried to pick up something that was really, really heavy? A cookie’s not heavy, and a feather’s not heavy; what else isn't really heavy? But what if you needed help lifting or moving – or learning, or trying out – something big and heavy? The Bible says God is with us and is always always helping us. I wonder if someone could help us move this big thing onto the table? That’s what it’s like when God helps us! Let’s thank God for that.

So when the students had gathered in the capital city, they asked the risen Jesus, “Master, is it time now when you will bring the Kingdom of God to Israel?”

Jesus answered, “It isn't up to you to know when the Father has decided what to do. but here is what is up to you: you will receive power because the Spirit of God is going to come into you. And you will go and tell about this here in Jerusalem, and in the region of Judea, and into the region of Samaria, and into the whole world.”

When Jesus had said this, as they were watching he was lifted up into the sky, and a cloud took him out of their sight. They were gazing up into heaven, still, and suddenly two beings in white robes stood with them.

“Men from galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here looking up at the sky?”

Jesus came in – appeared – and stood in the room with them. He said, “May peace be with you!” Then he showed them his hands and his side. And Jesus’ followers were very happy when they saw their Master.

And Jesus said, “May peace be with you! The Father has sent me. So now I am sending you.” And then he breathed on them. He said, “Breathe in the Spirit of God.”
