The deepest definition of God in the Jewish and Christian scriptures is that God is a Spirit, and is like air, wind, breath: ruach in the Jewish scriptures, and pneuma in the Christian scriptures. If God is like air, and breath, and God's Breath is what created all of the universe, then when I am disconnected from God's Spirit, God's breath, God's presence, I feel as if I'm unable to breathe. My soul needs to regroup, reconnect, reboot. Breathe in God's love, God's creativity, God's reassurance. Breathe.
